Klein Bonaire or Little Bonaire is a small 6 square kilometer large island located west of Bonaire's capital Kralendijk. It has been privately owned until 1999 when Bonaire's government, the World Nature Fund and the Foundation to Preserve Klein Bonaire bought it back to protect and conserve its underwater potential. This flat uninhabited island is surrounded with white sandy beaches and almost no vegetation other then acacia's and cacti. It is surrounded by one of Bonaire's best fringing coral reefs and there are plenty of turtle nesting grounds. Although the dive sites are within one hundred meters from Klein Bonaire's shore, most recreational divers will enter these pristine waters by boat. It is also possible to rent a kayak in Kralendijk and peddle the 800 meters to Klein Bonaire. The underwater richness, colors and shallowness makes it one of the best spots for snorkeling as well.
